Columbia rocks. Almost constantly there are festivals and arts events that are havens for people watchers and photographers. Not surprisingly, I have been to several lately and will stretch out the images from these for a few posts. . . and some images of my cats as well… because I can
At any rate, here are some images that I took at the first Twilight Festival of the year this past Thursday. Twilight festivals are every Thursday night in June and September downtown. Excellent
As I was post-processing the images of the chess players that follow, I felt a little like Norman Rockwell. . . but with vibrant pastel colors replacing Rockwell’s more subdued palate. As you can see, the gentlemen drew much attention from young passers-by and young people in the ice cream shop in front of which they played. I wondered if they have a weekly date to play. . . the timer on the back of the table discourages thinking that this was a random match.

due to pilot error, the mentioned Norman Rockwell-esque photo somehow did not manage to be shown in the original post. The image currently displayed is the correct image. I’m not certain that this clarifies exactly how it looked Rockwell-esque to me… but there you have it. We apologize for the inconvenience. Those responsible for the mix-up have been sacked.
This was one of the last images that I took on the night. . . we were down to Mill Creek park where they have many of the more child-oriented activities. On this night, it seemed that there was a family of mimes that were entertaining during the evening… but we had arrived at that end of the downtown pretty late in the game. The mime family were preparing to leave, and is prone to happening at these kind of events, they had made a couple of attempts to gather everyone together. I think that this young lady was more ready to go than some of the others. . . a sort of Bob Ross happy-little-accident added some of the cool coloration that adds to the emotion of the image.

Wonderful shot of the little mime girl! I love it. I’m glad Columbia is turning out to be a happy home base for you and your work. I’m looking forward to coming up there sometime.
